Iran's aluminium production is expected to hit 180,000 tons by the end of the current Iranian year (ending March 20, 2005) say a rise of 18 percent compared to last year, the English Language daily Tehran Times reported on Sunday.
However, officials at the Iranian Ministry of Industries and Mines claimed the aluminium industry is experiencing sluggish growth despite major aluminum plants such as Al-Mahdi Aluminum Plant in Bandar Abbas operating at full capacity. According to the newspaper, Iran still lags behind other countries in aluminium production.
However, the report said national production would catch up with global production, saying the 110,000 and 120,000 tons of expected turnout by Al-Mahdi and Arak Aluminum Plant, respectively, would set an an all-time record of 230,000 tons for the country.
