The first model of a domestically made Iranian passenger plane, a joint venture with Ukraine, left the assembly line on Tuesday, state radio reported.

The 52-passenger Iran-140 has a maximum altitude of 26,000 feet and a range of some 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles), it said.

The jet, inaugurated as part of Iran's week of activities to mark the 20th anniversary of the 1980-1988 war with Iraq, is now ready for initial tests before making its official debut next year.

Forty percent of the parts were manufactured jointly by Iran and Ukraine, while production of the remainder was split equally between the two countries.
