The Iraqi department of traffic suggested to the Iraqi council of ministers to ban the use of vehicles manufactured before 1990 as well to compensate the owners of such cars. In this context, Brigadier Najim Abed Jabir, the manger of media and PR at the department said that this suggestion is still under review. He revealed that the ban, if approved, will apply to Baghdad and other provinces.

Brigadier Najim also clarified, according to Azzaman newspaper, that the streets of Baghdad and other provinces became very crowded with all kinds of vehicles that cause pollution to the environment. It should be mentioned that more than 1 million vehicles were allowed into Iraq after the fall of the previous regime. For this reason, a decision was made to ban the import of cars made before the year 2000.
