According to Alqabas Newspaper, the Iraqi government has announced that it will construct a sea port on the western shore of Alfaw. The Iraqi interim prime minister Eyad Alawi announced this news during a TV interview. According to him, he said that he signed the memorandum concerning this project with British prime minister Tony Blair some three weeks ago. The Iraqi prime minister clarified that the plan is to construct huge sea port, and to build industrial establishments nearby.
A source in the Iraqi transportation ministry said that a special committee was formed to study and prepare all what is needed for the project implementation. The source also said that the seaport will be built on an area of 40 million sq. m.
