According to <i>Azzaman</i> newspaper, the Iraqi Planning Minister, Mehdi al-Hafedh, said that his ministry is seeking to join the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the leading global organization that prepares and publishes international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies.
The minister added that his ministry has almost finalized a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the American ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) for bilateral technological cooperation. The MOU will be signed this summer, according to the minister. Iraq had also renewed its membership in the international Standards ISO.
