Israel's consumer price index edged up 0.3 percent in July after a similar rise the month before, due mostly to an increase in the price of fresh vegetables and transport, the central statistics office said Tuesday.

So far this year, the index has risen just 0.7 percent, it said in a statement.

The finance ministry last week set its inflation target for 2001 to between 2.5 and 3.5 percent, compared with an estimated three percent for this year. Economic growth in Israel is forecast at 4.5 percent next year, up from an estimate of four percent for 2000.
