ALBAWABA - The René Lalique Museum was subjected to a shocking robbery as about 4 million euros worth of jewelry was looted from the French museum on Sunday, according to a source familiar with the investigation.
It is worth noting that French jeweler René Lalique is a renowned glassmaker and jeweler of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements. His museum is located near his eponymous factory in eastern France.
The source told Le Parisien newspaper that "around 20 pieces of jewelry were stolen. The value of the stolen items is still being assessed, but it could reach several million euros, perhaps even close to four million."
The museum, which opened in 2011 in Wengen-sur-Modor, announced the robbery and its closure for a few days "to plan a smooth and safe reopening," according to a message shared by the administration online.
One or more people broke into the museum, which displays René Lalique's (1860-1945) glass creations in 900 square meters, at approximately 5:30 a.m.
The source added that "the alarm went off, but before the security company could verify the alarm, the cleaning worker who arrived first at the site had already contacted the police."
On October 19, 2025, four masked thieves disguised as construction workers conducted an 8-minute heist on board daylight at the Louvre in Paris, stealing eight pieces of the French Crown Jewels, valued at approximately €88 million.
