ALBAWABA — In an effort to improve the military's capacity to handle changing security challenges, King Abdullah II of Jordan has ordered the creation of a thorough plan and execution schedule for reorganizing the Jordanian Armed Forces over the course of the following three years.
The King stressed the necessity of a fundamental structural transformation of the Armed Forces in a message to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on Saturday in order to guarantee preparedness for both present and future challenges, especially those brought on by rapid technological change and increasingly complex operational environments.
In order to ensure alignment with the demands of modern warfare, including hybrid and non-traditional wars, King Abdullah II emphasized that the reorganization process should concentrate on modernizing force structure and operational doctrine. He emphasized the significance of creating highly skilled, adaptable, and agile military that can uphold strategic deterrence and protect national security.
In order to achieve operational superiority, the King advocated for more investment in innovative defense capabilities, including as cyber defense and offensive operations, unmanned systems, and artificial intelligence. In order to guarantee that command, control, and communications systems are safe, dependable, and efficient, he also emphasized the need for their strengthening.
Plans to strengthen reserve troops, enhance logistical support systems, and reevaluate the operational responsibilities of border guards, gendarmerie units, and special police forces within larger military planning were also included in the directive.
Regarding defense industries, King Abdullah II called for a greater emphasis on R&D and domestic defense manufacture. He also called for the King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau to play a larger role as a central repository for cutting-edge military technologies. Additionally, he directed the restructuring of military-affiliated businesses and investment funds to conform to best practices in management and governance.
The King concluded by expressing trust in the leadership and personnel of the Armed Forces to execute the transformation and promising full support for the strategy's implementation to guarantee that the Jordanian military is capable, up to date, and ready to handle any security problems in the future.
