The newly competitive commercial environment in the regional communications industry was Tuesday singled out by Chairman Dr Mohammad Khalfan Bin Kharbash as one of the main driving forces behind Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat) recent launch of a series of cutting edge products, services and corporate initiatives.

Speaking on a visit to Etisalat’s giant stand at the GITEX 2004 exhibition Dr Kharbash, the UAE Minister for Finance and Industry, said: “The Corporation has met the challenges presented by a new commercial environment and our business divisions have been given distinct structures and identities to enable them to respond quickly and proactively to the demands of the marketplace.”

He added: “This year has witnessed tremendous all round advances, growth and development for Etisalat. The Corporation has gone from strength to strength in its core operations. Over and above this it has not been afraid to innovate, to take on fresh challenges, to enter new markets and consistently break new ground.”

After a tour of the stand, escorted by Etisalat Senior officials, including Mohammed Hassan Omran, Acting President and CEO, and Obaid Bin Mes’har, Senior Executive Vice President, Dr Kharbash added: “Etisalat considers GITEX a key event in its marketing calendar. Our presence here is very important.

“That is why this year we have created the biggest stand in the show’s history. Our involvement on this massive scale is a sign of our commitment to GITEX and to the communication and technology sector in the region in general.

“Etisalat is the main sponsor of the show. This is an indication of the role we now play and the responsibility that goes with being the region’s leading communications group - one that is at the forefront of some of the most exciting and life changing technological developments in the world today.”

Dr Kharbash said the Corporation had grasped the opportunity offered by GITEX to showcase its technological advances and cutting edge services. He added: “The new commercial environment demands that we accept opportunities and challenges when they appear. We take great pride in our ability to apply technology for the benefit of our customers.

“Etisalat provides enabling technologies that bring creativity, efficiency and value to our customers – both businesses and individuals.”
