(MEBG) - The Kuwaiti oil minister, Sheikh Saud Nasser al-Sabah, has traveled to Iran to hold talks with his Iranian counterpart, Bijan Namdar-Zanganeh. Among the subjects to be discussed is the situation in the oil markets and border disputes. The Kuwait minister is also scheduled to meet Iranian President Khatami.

His Iranian counterpart, Bijan Namdar-Zanganeh, declared in his welcome address that they would discuss plans to settle a border dispute involving areas in the northern Gulf. The disputed area is considered to be rich in natural gas and oil deposits, and Iran stopped its prospecting activities in the area several days ago.

Sheikh Saud's visit comes only weeks after Kuwait and Saudi Arabia reached an agreement on their maritime border. This agreement is regarded as an essential criterion for agreement to be reached with Iran.
