According to latest statistics from the Lebanese ministry of economy and trade’s technical center for pricing policies, average prices of consumer and food goods, based on a typical consumer basket, decreased 0.22 percent in January from December 2000 and 2.43 percent from the base date in December 1999.
Alcoholic drinks witnessed the largest decrease (7.56 percent) in prices, while fruits and vegetable prices fell on average 6.18 percent and 1.87 percent respectively between December and January 2001.
These falls were partly offset by the slight increase in oil prices, edging up 1.28 percent while meat prices went up 1.07 percent on average during the period. — (Banque du Liban et d'Outre-Mer Sal)
