Lebanon’s national electric utility, Electricite Du Liban (EDL), has generated 9.5 percent more electric power during the month of April 2002, as compared to the same month the previous year, Lebanese Central Bank figures indicate.
The company produced 787 million Kilo Watts of electricity hour (KWh) in April 2002, bringing electricity production over the first four months of the year 2002 to a total of 3,184 million KWh, a 4.5 percent increase from the corresponding period of 2001.
Earlier this month, Lebanon’s Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) has sealed a deal on behalf of EDL with an Italian-German consortium, Ansaldo-Siemens, to expand the country’s electricity production capacity. The planned 375-megawatt increase will go on stream within the next three months, raising production by 20 percent. — (menareport.com)
