Flights with Etihad Airways between Tripoli and Abu Dhabi were postponed after the international airport was seized by gunmen.
“Due to the closure of Tripoli airport, Etihad Airways has delayed its flights between Abu habi and Tripoli from Tuesday 5 June to Wednesday 6 June,” a spokesperson for the carrier said in an emailed comment to Arabian Business.
The situation in Libya will continue to be monitored; but as of now it remains unsafe for any flights to resume. Currently the Abu Dhabi based airline has a three times a week route to the Libyan capital, which they initiated in January of this year.
Clashes broke out between rival Libyan militias at the International airport after gunmen had driven armed pick-up trucks onto the tarmac and surrounded all the planes, forcing the airport to cancel flights.
"The airport will resume operation within 24 hours. I heard there were some injured," government spokesman Nasser al-Manee told a late night press conference, without giving a number of those wounded in the clashes.
