US-based Tobacco distributor Phillip Morris will invest five million dollars into a new Marlboro manufacturing facility in Jordan.
The world renown brand will be produced in the Kingdom in cooperation with Jordan’s private International Tobacco and Cigarette Company (ITCC), reported Jordan Times.
To be distributed by the Al-Robban Trading Company, ITTC’s Marlboro output will be available to the local market only, reducing the cost of a pack of cigarettes by 29 percent to $1.4 from two dollars.
The project’s launch comes in the midst of a wide scale regional boycott of US products. In light of American support for Israel, popular committees in the Middle East have been calling to widen the ban against US-made products and services. Bombs have exploded and fires set ablaze outside American fast food restaurants in Lebanon and Saudi Arabia in the past two months. — (menareport.com)
