Residents in Sharjah are expecting a massive increase in rent. According to Gulf News, expatriates have already been given notices that the rent will be hiked when they renew their tenancy contract, after three years. The increase ranges from 40 per cent to as high as 95 per cent. One resident said he is presently paying Dh23,000 for a two-bedroom flat in Al Nahda district and expects that it will be hiked to Dh38,000.
