American fast food chain McDonald’s was a target for violence in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday when a man entered a restaurant in the Kharj province, covered it with petrol and set it on fire.
The attack caused no casualties but the restaurant was destroyed from the blaze, reported SPA. Local police are conducting a man-hunt for the culprit who remains unidentified.
In light of American support for Israel, popular committees in the Middle East have been calling to widen the boycott against US-made products and services. In Lebanon, bombs have exploded outside a McDonald’s restaurant in Jouineh and a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise in the Northern city of Tripoli in the past seven months.
Saudi Interior Minister Nayef Bin Abdel Aziz pointed out that although McDonald’s is an American food chain, the targeted restaurant is owned by a Saudi national. He stressed that once caught, the attacker will be put on trial and the franchise owner will be compensated for all losses suffered. — (menareport.com)
