Metito, the international desalination, water and wastewater treatment specialist, was this week the focus of investor attention at the Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) conference 2007. The two day conference on the region’s new centre of investment was graced by several high profile investors and business leaders from across the region.

Metito highlighted its long term strategy to develop large water projects supporting the growth plans of RAK, the emerging emirate in the UAE. Robert Smith, Concessions Specialist, of Metito delivered a key presentation which highlighted the economic importance of a joint matrix between the public and private sector as well as community participation.

Speaking on the occasion Robert Smith of Metito said, “We had a great response from people who were particularly interested in knowing our expertise in the water industry. Through a series of presentations and discussions we were able to showcase our cutting edge technology to support the developing economy of RAK.”

Metito’s participation also demonstrated the emerging synergy between the public and private sector through public private partnership projects (PPP) in the water industry, which has grown at an exponential rate in the last couple of years. Cost savings, efficient facility management, comprehensive environment stewardship as well as government ownership of assets are a few advantages of promoting PPP in the region.

He added “RAK is one of the fastest growing places in the region and an adequate supply of clean water is of key importance to sustain this growth. Metito with over four decades of experience provides a wide range of services such as desalination, water and wastewater treatment “

Metito, founded in 1958, is a shining example of a Middle Eastern company that has grown to be a world leader in its field.  Metito operates locally in 14 countries of the Arab and Islamic World, and supplies its plants internationally to locations as far apart as Argentina and Australia from its base in the UAE.  Some of the company’s notable achievements in 2005 include the rehabilitation of the Hartha & Najibiyah power stations in Iraq, the water supply to Pelindo ports in Indonesia, drinking water supply to Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt and the innovative reuse of water at The Palm, Jumeirah.
