Company Press Release:

Dubai — The final countdown has begun for the launch of Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Win Me), the latest operating system from Microsoft, which will make its international debut on September 14. In partnership with Acer Computers, Microsoft will launch Win Me in Dubai at Plug-ins (Deira City Center) CompuMe, and in Lebanon during Termium-GITEX Beirut 2000.

Developed specifically for the home user, Windows Me enhances PC health, Digital Media features, Home Networking and Internet Related Services. In February this year, Microsoft launched the Windows 2000 operating system, which specifically targets the business sector.

Windows Me’s increased user-friendly interface, together with its novel and enhanced features, aim at providing inexperienced as well as seasoned users with unlimited home entertainment involving least complexity and increased capability.

“The launch of Windows Millennium reiterates Microsoft’s commitment to the home user,” explains Mazen Shehadeh, Product Manager desktop application division at Microsoft Gulf and Eastern Mediterranean (GEM). “With its increased reliability, stability, and easy-access entertainment, we are confident that Windows Millennium will be the essential operating system of choice for home computing."

Microsoft GEM has announced a limited-time promotional price of $59.95 for the Windows Millennium Edition operating system. The promotion period will extend from September 14, 2000 through January 31, 2001, making it more affordable for Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition users to update their systems with the most recent consumer operating system enhancements.

Windows Me provides the home-PC with System File Protection, a module that protects essential system files from being altered or deleted by poorly written installation programmers. Equally powerful is the System Restore feature, which allows users to roll back their entire PC configuration to a previous state of accuracy, in the event of configuration irregularity.

Further, the new operating system simplifies formerly complex processes. For example, whenever the Windows Me system is connected to the Internet, it automatically checks for critical operating system upgrades and installs them on its own, after giving the user the option. This as well as other features render Windows Me an ideal solution for all home-PC needs, facilitating the user to utilize his system directly without having to constantly deal with technicalities.

Built to be the optimal platform for the entire range of Internet related activities, Windows Me reinforces Microsoft’s concept of the Everyday Web that allows users to intuitively turn to the Internet for any purpose, be it gathering information, seeking entertainment, shopping or merely browsing. Further, supporting the concept of user-ease is the Home Networking system that allows every computer in the home to access the Internet at the same time, through a single telephone line, over a shared connection.

With Windows Me, each home computer is a multimedia entertainment centre. From home video editing to digital music recording, Windows Me includes a variety of tools, that facilitate storing, managing, editing and sharing digital pictures, movie clips, and audio files. Windows Me also offers flashier, more responsive animation, better sound quality and control, quick and easy ways to import pictures, extensive plug and play capabilities, and a built-in video editing tool.

Windows Millennium’s primary strength lies in its vision to put real-world technical innovation within the reach of mainstream consumers. The operating system will be available in retail boxes on September 14, 2000. In addition, Windows Me will also be available preinstalled on new PCs. Local municipal taxes may apply to the promotional pricing mentioned.
