Mobile penetration and adoption in Jordan has been driven by the increasing quality standards of mobile technology and the reduction of prices due to competition, recently stated MobileCom CEO Jean-Christophe Caillat. This comes after the recent announcement by the International Telecommunications Union stating that global mobile users are set to top the one billion mark soon.

“Mobile GSM technology has been available for some time in the Middle East but the lack of competition and the sometimes prohibitive costs have slowed penetration and adoption,” said Caillat. “Jordan is no exception; mobile users in Jordan in April 2000 were approximately 130,000. MobileCom today has over 200,000 subscribers and that figure is still growing. This is largely due to competition and the availability of high quality services.”

MobileCom is the Jordanian public mobile telephone network operator, and is the operator of the mobile communications license granted to Jordan Telecom. The company has launched its full public service in Jordan September 2000. — (menareport.com)
