Moroccan tourist statistics did not show any dramatic change in the month of Ramadan, according to the latest ministry of tourism statistics. Morocco welcomed 350,631 tourists in October 2004 as opposed to 301,089 in October 2003, which represents over a 17% increase.
There was a proportional increase in the number of tourist nights in hotels. Internal tourism is also robust, representing 12% of tourist night in October, but there has been a decrease in the past few years.
Tourism continues to be a vital source of foreign currency for Morocco but most industry sources admit that the sector needs an injection of foreign investment to compete in this fiercely competitive industry.
