Navigation Technologies, a provider of digital maps for vehicle navigation, Internet/wireless applications and business solutions, announced availability of navigable digital map coverage of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The completion of Saudi Arabia represents an important development in Navigation Technologies' digital mapping of the Middle East. The availability of navigable digital maps of Saudi Arabia enables continuous routing from Kuwait to Bahrain to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), all of which were released as NAVTECH maps in 2001. Oman will be released later this year.
The NAVTECH map of Saudi Arabia provides detailed coverage in Greater Riyadh and Jeddah, enabling in-vehicle navigation systems and Internet/wireless applications to provide turn-by turn directions in these areas. The launch includes more than 15,000 miles of digitally mapped roads and detailed physical attributes such as speed limits and road sign text.
In addition to the standard points of interest included in NAVTECH maps (e.g. restaurants, hotels, schools, gas stations), the Saudi Arabia map was customized to include local areas of interest such as mosques.
Al-Daleel Information Systems, a Jeddah based digital mapping and solution provider, was integral to Navigation Technologies' rapid entry into the market. Founded in 1996 to deliver solutions in GIS & DMS, Al-Daleel Information Systems has created a Graphic Database for Saudi Arabia that is suited to navigation and automatic vehicle location.
Navigation Technologies creates the digital maps that power navigation and location-based services around the world. The Chicago-based company was founded in 1985 and is privately held. The company's 1,200 employees are in over 100 offices in 18 countries.
