A new medical project was launched in Dubai this week, valued at $1.8 billion. The Dubai Healthcare City aims at transforming the Emirate into a global hub for specialized healthcare and a center for medical education and research.
According to Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum the initiative would include setting up institutions that specialize in healthcare as well as establishing university medical complex for medical education and life sciences.
“The medical sector in the region constituting the 31 states with a population of 1.8 billion is expanding rapidly and it is expected that for the first time at the regional level comprehensive healthcare facilities will be available under one roof,” said Dubai Development and Investment Authority (DDIA) Chairman, Mohammed Al-Gergawi.
“The studies conducted by DDIA affirm that the city will strengthen the position of UAE not only as an important destination for health services but an attractive center for medical professionals such as doctors, specialists and researchers,” he added.
The project includes a research center for life sciences focusing on regional specific medical areas. It will be a base for developing techniques and a regional center for gathering medical statistics.
The City will also provide doctors the opportunity to conduct research, publish and present results of their studies and strengthen co-operation with centers and global research bodies. The support services for patients at the Dubai Healthcare City will include hospitality services such as five star hotel facilities, health resorts and spas. — (menareport.com)
