New banknotes will gradually be entering into circulation in Jordan, starting Sunday, December 22. The Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) will issue 50, 20, 10, 5 and one Jordanian dinar notes with new designs printed by British firm De La Rue. The new 5-dinar note will bear a portrait of King Abdullah II who succeeded his father, the late King Hussein, in February 1999.
The legal currency of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is the Jordan Dinar, commonly abbreviated JD, introduced on July 1, 1950. The Jordan Dinar is divided in to 1000 Fils.
