ALBAWABA - Leader of the Sudanese Army, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, announced on Tuesday that soldiers have liberated the city of Kadugli, the capital city of South Kordofan State.

Sudan News Agency reported, citing al-Burhan, that the road leading to Kadugli city was opened and the siege on the city was lifted.

He said in a brief interview broadcast by state television, "I congratulate the Sudanese people on the opening of the road to Kadugli, and congratulations to our people in Kadugli on the arrival of the army."

Earlier, the Sudan Doctors Network said that more than 240 children and 381 women, including pregnant women, are suffering from dire humanitarian conditions at Al-Ustad Camp in Kadugli.

The network added in a statement on Jan. 29, "Hundreds of families are suffering from severe shortages of food and basic health services, in addition to a lack of essential goods and exorbitant prices for those that are available. According to the network’s team in the camp, women and children are the most affected groups."

Kadugli, which suffers from dire humanitarian conditions and threats of famine, has long been besieged by the Rapid Support Forces and their local allies, as part of the ongoing war between the RSF forces and the Sudanese army since April 2023.
