Middle East Navigation Aids Service (MENAS) recently launched its new vessel Relume at Galatz Shipyard, Romania. Upon completion of outfitting and commissioning, MENAS expects to take delivery of the vessel in August 2004.
The 82-meter long ship was towed through the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and Bay of Biscay to Damen's Royal Schelde Shipyard in Vlissingen, Netherlands, arriving January 31, 2004.
MENAS' new ship will be equipped for oil spill response, with dispersant, clean up and recovery capabilities. It will also have high-resolution sonar scanning equipment for hydrographic survey and sea bottom investigation missions.
MENAS provides and maintains a network of visual aids to navigation, satellite-based navigational systems and associated maritime safety and environmental protections services within the Gulf. MENAS is an independent, not-for-profit organization, funded through navigaion dues paid in respect of vessels trading in the region. — (menareport.com)
