A Cyprus-registered tanker transporting 29,400 tones of fuel suffered a crack on its main deck and has been languishing off Morocco's northern coast for 48 hours, the Moroccan navy said late Tuesday.

The tanker has a 20-meter (65-foot) crack in its main deck, and naval units have been rushed to the scene to "keep the ship outside of Moroccan territorial waters and bring it eventual assistance," the navy said.

The navy emphasized that the ship, located off the Moroccan port of Nador, was not leaking fuel. A crisis center has been set up to follow the situation, the navy added.—AFP.
