More than two million people have visited the Global Village attraction during this year's Dubai Shopping Festival, making it the largest and most popular event in the festival's history, according to a company press release.

The record attendances were aided by the Global Village's relocation this year to the site of Dubai Festival City, which afforded more space, greater car parking and purpose-built infrastructure and facilities for the convenience of visitors.

Dubai Festival City is being developed by Al-Futtaim Investments on a 1,200-acre site, which stretches along four kilometers of Dubai Creek from the base of the Al-Garhoud Bridge. Construction is now scheduled to commence and the first phase of development is due to be completed in 2006.

The international pavilions at the Global Village took visitors on a tour around the world with culture, music and dance, as well as food and handicrafts, from the participating countries proving a draw for residents and tourists alike. — (menareport.com)
