The Palestinian Authority on Monday, November 5 banned merchants from crossing into the Gaza Strip on a daily basis with goods bought in Egypt, the justice ministry announced.
It said merchants will only be allowed to import goods through the Rafah crossing point with Egypt once every three months to prevent the Jewish state from benefiting from the trade.
Israel, which controls the crossing, imposes a customs tax which for several months has not been paid back to the Palestinian Authority, as agreed in autonomy accords, due to the ongoing intifada, or uprising. — (AFP, Gaza City)
