Smartphones that come with reinforced glass and rugged outer shells are just the tip of the iceberg of what we can expect from the next generation of mobile devices. Panasonic, the Japanese tech company has taken it to a whole new level with the announcement of an explosion proof smartphone that is going to debut in this month. There are no specifications known about the explosion proof smartphone other than the fact that it is going to be called FZ-E1, have a 5 inch screen and one model will be running Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2.
The smartphone from Panasonic will be available for corporate consumers who are stationed at locations which have a very high chance for an explosion related scenario to take place. This will include places like chemical plants, pharma plants or oil rigs. The other model of the explosion proof smartphone from Panasonic will be running Windows 8.1 and in addition to surviving explosions, the device will also remain functional after being dropped from a height of 3 meters.
Also, FZ-E1 complies with the IP65/68 standards, making the smartphone waterproof and dust proof. The only complaint that we have is that the device is running older versions of software developed by both Google and Microsoft. If you are going to target corporate clients, then such smartphones should also be running updated operating systems so that they can provide users with the latest security patches. After all, corporate customers are going to require these as much as they would need a device to be explosion proof.
Pricing details of the smartphone has yet to be detailed but if it is able to withstand something as large as an explosion, then Panasonic will not be pricing it cheaply. After all, it is targeted to corporate clients, which means that the company will be catering to a smaller market and will have to price it higher in order to break even.
