Abu Dhabi City Municipality has launched an awareness campaign targeting Musaffah Industrial Area with the aim of verifying the compliance with public health standards set for temporary boundary walls. During the campaign, owners were sensitised about the importance of redressing improperly built boundary walls to keep them in line with the health and safety standards applicable to all facilities. They were urged to take necessary action as a precaution for the changing weather and emergency conditions.

During the tours, municipal inspectors have made 51 sites visits in accordance with the provisions of Building Regulation Law No (4) for 1983 and its Executive Regulations. They informed the concerned parties of stipulations of temporary boundary walls applied by Abu Dhabi City Municipality and directed owners of sites falling short of these stipulations to take remedial measures as early as possible in preparation for climatic conditions. They were asked to revamp and refurbish those boundary walls to bring them in line with the engineering and aesthetic standards. Such compliance will contribute to protecting pedestrians and surrounding buildings from the risks of waste or equipment. They were also urged to comply with the safety stipulations and environmental protection in order to contribute to making Abu Dhabi city an environment-friendly city compatible with the highest public health and safety standards.

The Municipality called on owners and workers at those sites to make active participation in municipal efforts aimed at protecting the public safety and providing the highest standards of security and safety at workplaces and all installations. It called on complying with the stipulations applicable to temporary boundary walls in accordance with the provisions of the Buildings Regulation Law and its Executive Regulations.

The Municipality continues with these campaigns and monitoring building sites to curb offences and violations undermining the public interest in line with the Building Regulation Law No (4) for 1983 and its Executive Regulations.

It is noteworthy that the stipulations set for the construction of temporary boundary walls state the distance between the boundary panes must not be more than 5 cm and must not rise more than 20 cm from the ground. The height of the wall must not be less than 2.5 m, and the width of the entry point must not be more than 5 m. Cautionary and directional signs have to installed at specific areas along with signs displaying the names of the project, contractor and consultants have to be installed.

The provisions state that the boundary panes must be of iron installed on impermanent concrete pillars. The boundary wall must be painted in bright orange or suitable colour approved by the Municipality and must undergo periodic maintenance.
