Promising projects

As part of the 38th Plantation Week, Abu Dhabi City Municipality has unveiled scores of agricultural, irrigation and park projects aimed to enhance the aesthetic appearance of Abu Dhabi city and environs, and nurture an ideal living environment in harmony with the aesthetic nature of Abu Dhabi city. These projects also provide a gorgeous natural avenue with health facilities so that community member, especially children, practice sport. Here is a list of the key projects:

Irrigation and landscaping

The project aims to upgrade Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Street and Al Mina Street by completing their sidewalks and improve the streetscape by adding greens and parasols and nurture a healthy environment for the residents and visitors. A cycling track connected to other tracks is designed as part of the cycling track general plan within Abu Dhabi city, at a total cost of AED 61,800,000.

Projects on Abu Dhabi Island

During the next two months, the Municipality will start the rehabilitation of the roadside landscaping project on Abu Dhabi Island (The Ideal Project on Al Bateen Street). This project, which is the first phase of medians landscaping project, includes the rehabilitation of medians & roadsides landscape in Al Bateen area within Abu Dhabi Island (Al Bateen Street). This would improve Abu Dhabi's overall aesthetic appearance as well as the soft and hard landscape in line with Abu Dhabi Strategic Plan 2030. It would also provide safe pedestrian, running and cycling tracks.

These projects would also cut operation & maintenance cost, and rationalise irrigation water consumption using modern and automatic irrigation systems. The cost of the project is AED 20,330,000 and is expected to complete in 2019.

Parks and playgrounds on the mainland:

The Municipality approved the design of ten parks and one playground on the mainland in Wathba, Bani Yas, Nahdha, Mu'azz, Shakhbout city and Shawamekh. In selecting the soft & hard landscaping materials and the appropriate games for the targeted age groups, the project observed the sustainability standards adopted in Abu Dhabi emirate, along with the Public Realms Design Guide, and Urban Streets Design Guide. The estimated total cost of the project is AED 60,250,000.

In selecting these areas, attention was given to their need of parks, the location of recreation sites and population density.

These projects are a priority as they provide community services, meet the demands of citizens & residents and contribute to providing a venue for families and children in the residential sectors. This would have a positive bearing on public health and provide welfare and happiness to the population. The projects also include establishing six parks in Shahama and Bahia as part of a project run by Abu Dhabi Public Services Company (Musanada) at an estimated cost tag of AED 56,000,000.
