Abu Dhabi Customs holds a graduation ceremony for the 7th batch of Constitutive Customs Officers Course

The Abu Dhabi Customs Academy recently held the graduation of the seventh batch of the Constitutive Customs Officers Course. The commencement took place at the Higher Colleges of Technology’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi and in the presence of Abu Bakr Al Fahim, Director of Training and Capacity Building of the General Directorate of Customs- Abu Dhabi, and a number of other Directorate officials along with the participation of a group of foreign trainers and experts.

The ceremony began with a speech by Al Fahim on behalf of HE Saeed Ahmed Al Muhairi, Director General,Abu Dhabi General Directorate of Customs, where he praised this group of elite graduates of the customs officers training course. He then explained that the courses provide an opportunity that allows all UAE Nationals to work in the field of customs and security and to become front row soldiers who provide safety for the community and protect the UAE’s assets. The programme also allows citizens to become active members in the development of the nation’s economic resources.

Abu Bakr Al Fahim said: “The quick pace of developments and changes witnessed around the world is a key motivator for us to work on ensuring the full implementation of the rules and standards of both trade and customs organizations especially that the UAE has grown to become one of the world’s most important trade hubs. In fact, this requires us to promote public awareness on the issues faced by international trade and customs agreements.”

Al Fahim also highlighted that the management of Training and Capacity Building in the General Directorate of Customs- Abu Dhabi works extensively to raise the efficiency of officers and increase their awareness on issues related to customs work. He added that the customs officers training courses are of main interest for the senior management led by HE Hamad Al Hurr Al Suwaidi, Chariman of the Department of Finance- Abu Dhabi, due to the opportunities it provides enrollers with to develop their professional abilities and to actively participate in the social and economic developments witnessed by the UAE.

Furthermore, Abu Bakr Al Fahim pointed out that this seventh edition of the Constitutive Customs Officers Course comes to fulfill the sound visions of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his brother HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, of providing citizens with real opportunities to be active players in the UAE’s development since they represent a focal point of the nation.

Al Fahim concluded his speech by offering his sincere thanks and appreciation to all those who contributed to the success of this course. He specifically thanked the Higher Colleges of Technology and the Ministry of Interior for offering their full support to reach the common goal which includes the security and prosperity of the nation.

It should be noted that the General Directorate of Customs- Abu Dhabi has placed rules for the Constitutive Customs Officers Course more than two years ago. In fact, each course lasts for a period of three months, during which participants are selected based on their ability to abide by the rules and conditions of enrollment and on passing the planned tests. The following participants are then trained by the Abu Dhabi Customs officers and foreign experts on all customs procedures and controls. Moreover, the course also allows the graduates to deal with various customs rules and regulations, intellectual property law, inspection methods, detectors in addition to anything related to customs affairs in order to ensure their readiness to work on the field and to engage them in customs work in various department and centers of the General Directorate of Customs- Abu Dhabi.
