ACT shares the joy of Eid with the local community

In continuation of the initiative launched by the company for the month of Ramadan, Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT), the Kingdom’s primary gateway to the shipping lines of the Red Sea and beyond, recently initiated the second stage of the Ahl Al Khair (Good People) initiative, under the heading of “The Joy of Eid.”
The campaign comprised of the dissemination of coupons to impoverished families, which will allow them to secure basic necessities such as clothing, school supplies and others. The company provided transportation for the targeted families to and from shopping areas to make the task easier.
ACT’s CEO Soren Hansen underscored his great delight in the launch of this campaign and the spirit of volunteerism that pervades the terminal’s internal culture. He explained that the Holy Month of Ramadan is an ideal time to reflect such a spirit and translate its tenets into practice.
“We are committed at ACT to share various occasions with our local community, not only when it comes to celebrations to sharing and understanding their trials and tribulations,” added Hansen. “This becomes all the more important given the fact that Eid El Fitr is drawing near and it will be followed by the start of the new school year. We found it prudent to organize this initiative to help mitigate the burdens borne by families.”
The Good People campaign was not exclusive to the people of Aqaba but also extended to include its neighboring villages, including the villages of Rahma, Qatar, Tweiseh and Qureiqera. The campaign is segmented into three stages: the first the dissemination of 250 charity packages in Aqaba, which was followed by the Joy of Eid coupon campaign. The third and final phase will take place during Eid Al Adha.
Background Information
Aqaba Container Terminal
In 2003, the Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), on behalf of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, was on a mission to acquire a strategic partnership to improve the efficiency, capacity and the operational performance of the container terminal in Aqaba. After signing a Terminal Management Contract with ADC in 2004, APM Terminals (part of the global A.P. Møller–Maersk Group), took over the management and operation of the terminal.
A 25-year Joint Development Agreement (JDA) was signed between ADC and the Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) in 2006. Under the contract, APM Terminals Jordan operates, manages and markets ACT in addition to executing the Master Plan, which anticipates achieving a drastic increase of throughput capacity through a combination of physical and operational improvements.
