AUC Hosts an Exhibition on Magda Saleh, Egypt's First Prima Ballerina and the Art of Ballet in Egypt

The American University in Cairo (AUC) invited Magda Saleh, Egypt's first ever prima ballerina and first dean of the Higher Institute of Ballet, to Tahrir Square campus earlier this month for the opening of a photo exhibition about her and the art of ballet. AUC also commemorated the memory of her father and former AUC Vice President Ahmed Abdel Ghaffar Saleh with a portrait at the center. The opening also included a tribute to her, a discussion and a screening of the documentary “A Footnote in Ballet History." The exhibit features archive material about Saleh as well as stunning photographs of ballet taken by renowned photographer Sherif Sonbol.

 “A Footnote in Ballet History” is an award-winning documentary directed by Hisham Abdel Khalek (produced by H & O Productions), about Saleh. The screening was preceded by remarks by AUC President Francis Ricciardone and Saleh.

This event is part of a broad range of cultural activities at the Tahrir Cultural Center (TCC), which includes live music, dance performances, theatrical plays and movie screenings to art exhibitions, and conferences. TCC also helps in reviving the Downtown neighborhood and provides outstanding cultural and educational programs for Cairo residents, visitors, as well as AUC students and alumni.

The exhibition at the Future Gallery in TCC is open to the public until January 31. The exhibition is open every day including weekends, from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, except for university holidays.
