AUC To Organize A Weeklong Centennial Celebration
The American University in Cairo (AUC) is celebrating the beginning of its second century by holding a week long program of events on AUC New Cairo campus from February 15 to 19, 2020. Established in 1919, AUC started its centennial celebrations in February last year focusing on the University’s past and deep rooted history in Egypt and the region.
This year, under the slogan “Be the Future,” AUC will focus on the future and its plans in the next 100 years. While the weeklong celebration includes a variety of interesting events, we are inviting you to two major events on both February 15 and 17, 2020.
On Saturday, February 15, 2020, there will be the Community Carnival from 12:00 to 5:00 pm in Bartlett Plaza, AUC New Cairo campus. From virtual reality to digital graffiti, the program promises an adventure into the future. There will be 100 Years of Fashion Evolution live runway show by AUC alumni and students; talented street performers; Sci-Tech Hub to watch an exciting science experiment and to see the galaxy in the next 100 years, archeology labs, and popup museums.
The event will also include an international food festival organized by the students and a scavenger hunt through the campus. Attendees of the carnival are AUC alumni and their friends, in addition to public figures from Egypt and the region. A bus will be available at 11:30 am in front of the gate of AUC Tahrir campus in Mohamed Mahmoud St to transport you from AUC Tahrir to AUC New Cairo and back.
On Monday, February 17, 2020, there will be the Centennial Nights from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at AUC Park and Square, AUC New Cairo campus. The event will include an art exhibition about design showcasing rising young talents across the region and the world.
Furthermore, AUC trustee Rana El Kaliouby, co-founder and CEO of Affectiva, the global leader in emotion sensing and analytics, will give a talk about Artificial Intelligence, titled, "AI: Humanizing Technology." El Kaliouby was recognized by Entrepreneur as one of the “7 Most Powerful Women To Watch In 2014”, and was inducted into the “Women in Engineering” Hall of Fame. She was also a recipient of the 2012 Technology Review’s “Top 35 Innovators Under 35” Award and listed on Ad Age’s “40 under 40.”
On that night AUC Portal will come to life with a 3D mapping experience, visualizing the future of architecture under a moonlit sky. The event will end with spectacular fireworks.
A bus will be available at 4:30 pm in front of the gate of AUC Tahrir campus in Mohamed Mahmoud St. to transport you from AUC Tahrir to AUC New Cairo and back.
