Boeing partnered with Emirates Airlines and non-profit organizations to transport relief supplies on board its newly delivered 777-300ER (Extended Range) to victims of the civil war in Somalia.

The relief shipment was comprised of 34,000 pounds (metric amount) of high-calorie supplement designed to provide nutritional and medical care to the severely malnourished -- especially young children as well as expectant and nursing mothers.

Boeing and Emirates joined hands with the non-profit global health and disaster relief organization AmeriCares and the UK-based international relief and development agency Muslim Aid.  Nutritional supplements were distributed to about 50 settlements around the capital city of Mogadishu where nearly 100,000 citizens have sought refuge.

Over the years, Boeing has facilitated more than 130 humanitarian delivery flights, working in partnership with nearly 50 different airlines worldwide.

“Acute malnourishment and hunger are just some of the tragic consequences of the civil war in Somalia,” said Liz Warman, Boeing director of Global Corporate Citizenship Northwest Region. “Through collaborative efforts such as this, Boeing is proud to contribute to relief efforts around the world.”

Adel Al Redha, Emirates' executive vice president Engineering & Operations, said: "Emirates is committed to supporting worthy humanitarian and social causes and we were more than happy to offer cargo space for the relief shipment onboard our delivery flight."
