DAMAC Properties, one of the region’s largest luxury real estate developers, has achieved the ISO 50001:2011 Energy Management Certification, which details requirements for implementing and improving energy management, while also adhering to a systematic approach in energy efficiency and consumption.

Following an audit by TÜV Middle East, the leading center for inspections, testing, assessments, auditing, certification and training in the Middle East, the energy efficiency stamp has been granted to Luxury Facilities Management (LFM), DAMAC Properties’ facilities management arm in charge of the total facilities management services under Luxury Owner Association Management Services (LOAMS).

Ziad El Chaar - Managing Director, DAMAC Properties commented: “This certification demonstrates DAMAC’s commitment to compliance with the ISO 50001 standards, with the fundamental aim of improving the efficiency of energy management systems and decreasing the overall energy consumption and the associated environmental impact. Our diligent facilities management team actively worked towards gathering and analyzing energy data especially related to electricity, water and chilled water, and consequently achieved a reduction in energy consumption.”

The results were compiled to draw a site specific annual sustainability action plan that takes into account all factors of energy such as set-points for chilled water systems, introduction of variable frequency drives (VFDs), LED lights, and motion sensors, to name a few, in addition to the regular preventive maintenance of the assets through the CAFM system (Computer Aided Facilities Management). Furthermore, the owners associations for the managed projects created energy efficiency awareness through the active involvement of individual board members and building occupants, providing energy saving tips and regular planned and quantified actions such as the Earth Hour.

“Those actions, drafted in an operation manual and energy monitoring standard tracker, not only led to savings in the utility bills and service charges, but also to reduction in CO2 emissions,” El Chaar concluded.

Founded in 1984, TUV Middle East is a subsidiary of TUV NORD GROUP. With more than 250 experts in all fields, TUV Middle East provides its partners with an extensive range of services and knowledge going beyond inspection and certification requirements.
