du’s employees enjoy a healthy Ramadan thanks to in-house well-being efforts

Employee health is at the forefront of du’s corporate social responsibility, and this Ramadan, in order to encourage best health practices amongst its employees, du has taken steps to promote well-being through a series of entertaining and educational in-house activities, led by the in-house company clinic, that are both rewarding and beneficial.
One of the lighter, most fun ways in which du is encouraging better health is The Well-Being Challenge - a daily quiz emailed to all employees, offering a multiple-choice question related to health and well-being. The first person to reply with the correct answer is the winner, with all daily winners being entered into a post-Eid draw to win attractive prizes.
All employees are able to access intranet resources that offer an in-depth insight into all manner of Ramadan-related well-being issues, including detailed information on the way that the body changes while fasting and tips on the best meals to eat at Iftar and Suhoor, as well as how to deal with issues such as diabetes and stress throughout the Holy Month.
du was the first UAE telecommunications company to launch an on-site health clinic dedicated to its employees, headed by Emirati national Dr. Mansoor Anwar. During Ramadan all employees are able to get on-the-spot consultations from Dr. Mansoor to ensure that their highest level of health is being maintained.
“We place the physical and mental well-being of our colleagues very highly, and feel it is part of our obligation to educate on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle,” commented Dr. Mansoor, Director of Medical and Occupational Health Services, du. “Due to Ramadan coinciding with the summer this year, it is especially important to follow good well-being practices in order to maintain a high level of health. By educating our colleagues on the best ways to stay fit throughout the Holy Month, we are helping them to remain healthy, happy and productive in all aspects of their life.”
The clinic recently conducted a two-day health campaign in Dubai Outsource Zone, led by Dr. Mansoor and a team of medical practitioners, at which health checkups were conducted to test employee blood pressure and Body Mass Index (BMI), with a vision test by Al-Jaber Opticals, cholesterol and blood sugar tests carried out by Star Metropolis Laboratory, and a stress questionnaire to determine the level of mental well-being amongst du’s employees. Furthermore, a presentation by guest speaker and ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) consultant, Dr. Abdulla al-Redha, on the health issues related to the use of headsets and hearing was delivered during the campaign. Similar campaigns are planned in future for other du premises.
