Emirates NBD, a leading bank in the region, announced today the launch of its Emirates NBD Mobile Banking App for handheld smartphones running on the BlackBerry OS, iOS and Android operating systems. The move underlines the bank’s ongoing commitment to provide its clients with value-added products and services that suit their lifestyles, whilst giving them the freedom to bank on the move via a secure mobile application wherever and whenever they want.

Drawing on the success of its state-of-the-art online banking platform, the Emirates NBD Mobile Banking App is an essential addition to the bank’s e-portfolio system, offering its users a host of innovative banking features that include account and credit card services, account and loan statements, bill payments, ATM locator and currency converter.

The innovative new mobile banking app facilitates local and international transfers with the ability to manage beneficiaries from the mobile application, providing additional convenience to the customers on-the-go.

"Mobile phones are no longer merely used for making phone calls and sending text messages, as we spend more time using those devices on a daily basis to surf the web or network with the others,” said Suvo Sarkar, General Manager, Retail Banking, Emirates NBD. “We at Emirates NBD are excited about the new innovative mobile banking app, which will not only allow our customers to access their accounts while they are on the move, but also bank with us in a convenient and highly secure environment.”

Emirates NBD’s mobile banking app has also been linked to its Internet Banking service, enabling customers to access a host of Internet Banking services through their smartphones. These include viewing financial summary, scheduled transactions, checking loan details, and transferring funds to Emirates NBD, Emirates Islamic Bank or other banks in the UAE. The innovative and user-friendly interface also provides easy access to Emirates NBD’s 28 payments partners for utility payments.

To avail the free service, customers with mobile phones that operate on BlackBerry OS, a proprietary mobile operating system developed by Research In Motion (RIM) for its BlackBerry line of smartphone devices, are required to download and install the Emirates NBD Mobile Banking App from the BlackBerry App World platform. Users of iPhones can download the app, which is also compatible with iPad and iPod Touch, from Apple’s App Store, while users of Android-powered phones can get the app from Google’s Play Store.

Background Information

Emirates NBD

Emirates NBD, the leading banking group in the region, was formed on 19 June 1963, when H.H. Late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum signed the Charter of Incorporation of the National Bank of Dubai (NBD) which became the first National Bank established in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). With the blessings of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, NBD merged with Emirates Bank International (EBI) on 06 March 2007, to form Emirates NBD, the largest banking group in the region by assets. On 16 October 2007, the shares of Emirates NBD were officially listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM). The merger between EBI and NBD to create Emirates NBD, became a regional consolidation blueprint for the banking and finance sector as it combined the second and fourth largest banks in the UAE to form a banking champion capable of delivering enhanced value across corporate, retail, private, Islamic and investment banking throughout the region.
