Empower Upholds the Spirit of the ‘Year of Giving’ Through Ramadan Blood Donation Drive

In an endeavour to support the UAE’s ‘Year of Giving 2017’ and to spread happiness in the community, Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, organised a blood donation drive in collaboration with the Dubai Blood Donation Centre on World Blood Donors Day - June 14th 2017. This time, the campaign was focused on blood donation during emergencies and was titled ‘Give Blood. Give Now. Give Often.’

The blood donation drive was aimed at spreading awareness on the importance of blood donation and how a drop of blood donated can be instrumental in saving life. The company not only encouraged its employees to engage in community service by donating blood, but also reinstated the importance of how many people across the world succumb due to lack of blood supply during emergencies.

“Blood donation is a simple act of giving which costs nothing, but can save a life. As an organisation, we are aware of the possibilities of shortage of blood at blood banks, and as such our campaign aims to encourage people to donate regularly,” said Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.

Empower employees and customers showed their enduring support and commitment to the society by donating blood at the camp held at Al Hudaiba Awards Building in Dubai. The initiative took place from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm with an aim to help and support those in need of blood.

“Empower is pleased to support the ‘Year of Giving 2017’ initiative by steering events and activities which highlights our commitment to serving all segments of the society. Our blood donation campaigns have always played a crucial role in helping patients and ensuring that the Dubai Blood Donation Centre is provided with an adequate supply of blood, in their most challenging moments,” added  Ahmad Bin Shafar.

The statistics show that one donor can save three to four lives. As blood has a shelf life of 42 days, it is important that people donate blood regularly. Blood donation procedure takes around 30 minutes per person.. Regular donors are asked to eat and sleep well before donating, drink plenty of fluids and consume a balanced diet.

“Blood donation not only helps to save life of a person in need, but also helps the donor with good health. As such it is the responsibility of all community members and residents of the UAE to donate blood regularly. At Empower, we ensure that all our initiatives are aimed at the well-being of our community and we hope that this small effort will prove as an impetus in enhancing the community growth,” concluded Ahmad Bin Shafar.

Blood Donation Centre expressed their satisfaction for the high level of participation witnessed from Empower’s employees and customers.  As part of the company’s comprehensive CSR program, Empower regularly organises blood donation drives in partnership with the Dubai Blood Donation Centre.
