The Euromoney Lebanon Conference brought together key players and decision makers to explore the future of finance in emerging markets, how this future is underpinned by the primacy and digitalisation of data and what role Lebanon can play in this development. The conference welcomed over 400 delegates internationally from tech start-ups, banks, accelerators, investors, regulators, financial institutions and more.

High profile speakers convened at the conference, including H.E. Mr Riad Salamé, Governor of Banque du Liban, Amine Awad, General Manager of BLOM Bank, Karl Tlais, Adviser and Senior Vice President, Partnerships of Rainmaking/Startupbootcamp and many more.

H.E. Mr Riad Salamé gave an opening keynote interview, where he shared his insights on the future growth of Lebanon's economy and the impact of technology upon the financial sector. He highlighted that technology eliminates intermediaries and forces prices down. Banks are still needed but must change.

This year we also welcomed Tomás Carruthers, Chief Executive of Project Heather, Rita Papadopoulou, Partner of Abou Jaoude & Associates Law Firm and Firas Safieddine, Vice Chairman of Capital Markets Authority Lebanon who spoke about the financing of start-ups and SMEs in the region, with a particular focus upon the CMA's new electronic trading platform that is set to be managed by Bank Audi Group and the Athens Exchange.

Following on from this, Alexandre Harkous, Founder and Executive Chairman of OneWealthPlace highlighted the reasons why we must digitise now. He commented that digital transformation leads to incremental changes to operations that contribute to the improvement of business performance.

The day continued, with speakers from Lazard Asset Management, The World Bank, Emirates NBD, Université Saint Joseph, Speed, Alkhair Capital and HedgeGuard focusing on the future direction of the financial sector.
