GEMS Modern Academy Celebrates Teacher’s Day

On 5^th September 1888, one of India’s most distinguished twentieth-century scholars of comparative religion and philosophy - and India’s first vice president and second president - Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, was born.

In light of his notable contribution to Indian society, Indian schools around the world annually celebrate Teacher’s Day, and this year GEMS Modern Academy has given 130 grade 11 students, including special educational needs and disability (SEND) pupils, the chance to teach the lower grades of six to nine.

Nargish Khambatta, Principal of GEMS Modern Academy, said: “It is a great pleasure to facilitate such a rewarding activity for our students, in light of such an influential figurehead’s birthday. Education at GEMS Modern Academy is based on nurture so that our students develop into fine young adults, and I am proud to see such a high number of interested and engaged students wanting to experience teaching first-hand, regardless of career ambitions.”

Throughout the morning, GEMS Modern Academy students taught different subjects and classes that were pre-approved by teachers, following lesson plan proposals from interested students.

From those 130 participating students, 10 will be selected to teach in a second round that will be more geared towards technology. After the second round, one girl and one boy student will be awarded Best Student Teacher.

The lucky prize winners will have their names displayed on a board of honour in the school auditorium foyer, and at the end of the school year, they will receive a plaque and certificate of achievement.

GEMS Modern Academy provides an outstanding Indian curriculum education and offers the IB Diploma as well. It aims to maximise every student’s learning and develop character to enable them to choose their own successful path and positively contribute to society.
