Norway got a well-deserved 2-1 win over Brazil today at the MetLife Stadium in the USA, in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Norway was the better, more focused team, and wanted to win more. On the other hand, Brazil was not the scary team everyone expected. Moreover, they lost possession for almost the whole match.
Match Highlights and Goals
Brazil missed a golden chance to take the lead in the first half when they got a penalty kick given by referee Ismail Elfath. Bruno Guimaraes stepped up to take it, but goalkeeper Nyland made a great save to keep the score at 0-0.
In the second half, Norway kept controlling the match. They managed to score the first goal with a header by Erling Haaland in the 79th minute. Haaland came back again and ended Brazil's hopes and dreams by scoring a second goal in the 90th minute.
In the 96th minute of added time, Norway player Ostigard made a hard tackle on Casemiro, and the referee gave a penalty kick to Brazil. Neymar stepped up and scored it to cut the lead, but it was too late.
With this result, Norway goes through to the quarter-finals to face the winner of the Mexico and England match, which will be played later today.
