Gulf Bank Expands Children’s Workshops Program With Al Sadu Society

Building on the success achieved last year, Gulf Bank is pleased to be expanding its partnership with Al Sadu Society to run a variety of textile and art workshops for children between 6 and 12 years of age, with a key objective of helping kids to learn and develop their creative skills and expose them to our country’s traditions of Sadu..
The season kicked off with its first workshop, held on Saturday, 10 February at Sadu House, and with 12 children participating in the small group workshops.
This year’s program will include 12 workshops, conducted twice a month, led by two instructors and with space for 12 participants, plus a three-month long School of Textiles, where a total of 12 children will be able to further explore the art of textiles and be introduced to more complex weaving, stitching and printing techniques. At the end of the school the students will have their works showcased in an exhibition.
Ms. Laila Al-Qatami, Assistant General Manager for Corporate Communications at Gulf Bank, said: “With an objective of shedding the light on the importance of handwork and an aim to preserve the heritage of our beloved country, Gulf Bank is very happy to be expanding its partnerships with Al Sadu Society. Together we will be conducting a series of workshops entitled ‘Fun with Textiles’, an initiative which witnessed huge success last year, and a longer more in-depth program called ‘School of Textiles’. We encourage parents to sign their children up early, the workshops fill up fast.”
In 2017, the program witnessed more 140 children participating in 12 workshops, held between March and December. Workshops were led by experienced instructors who volunteered to teach children how to make their dreamcatchers, wallets, printed bags, pom-poms, broches, head bands, coasters and yarn kites.
During these workshops, children will undertake different projects, learned new skills and used new tools, children will be given a guided choice of colors, designs and techniques, through which they will be able to develop their creative skills while having fun. Instructors will be present in each session to encourage children and guide them in their creations.
Al Sadu Society started in 1978, as a private initiative, by a group of concerned Kuwaitis who wished to preserve a fast disappearing, yet intrinsic, cultural heritage. Learn more about Al Sadu through its social media channel @SaduHouse.
