Students from Khalifa University have won the ADNOC- (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company) Bloomberg Trading challenge. The winners were announced in a ceremony on June 27, 2022 at ADNOC headquarters in Abu Dhabi in the presence of senior leaders from ADNOC, the Ministry of Education and Bloomberg LP.

The challenge is part of the efforts by ADNOC, the Ministry of Education and Bloomberg to support the next generation of youth in the UAE. Over 230 students from 7 different universities in the UAE including Khalifa University, UAE University, Zayed University and Abu Dhabi University participated in the challenge.

The challenge is the first commodities focused initiative designed to allow students to simulate analyst workflow on the Bloomberg Terminal®, producing original analysis on a number of topics. The challenge saw 46 teams compete, with guidance from Bloomberg analysts across different sectors, to create a research report that was presented to a jury of experts within the energy sector. The winning team members include: Tiemar Berhe; Danait Daniel; Saron Okbamichael and Divora Yemane.

The competition was split into two phases: the first saw five winning teams shortlisted based on highest returns and investment strategies; and the second, where one of the five finalists teams was selected as the overall winner and eligible for a summer internship with ADNOC Global Trading. ADNOC Global Trading is the ADNOC trading company for the UAE’s refined products, based in Abu Dhabi Global Market.

In 2019, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between ADNOC, Bloomberg and the Ministry of Education to implement and develop a training program to equip future generations of UAE students with the specialized financial skills needed to excel in a dynamic and globally connected world. This partnership has supported 5362 students so far, to complete the Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) Certification. Bloomberg Terminals have been installed at Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi University, UAE University, New York University Abu Dhabi, and the Higher Colleges of Technology.
