MAD Solutions has acquired the Arab world distribution rights to the documentary film The Golden Harvest by director Alia Yunis. The film world premiered at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival 2019 in Greece and was selected to take part in  “Hot Docs Recommends” at Hot Docs for Sale in Toronto.

Produced by Yunis’ Zigzag Lawn Productions, The Golden Harvest unveils the 6,000-year old profound, often troubled, relationship between the people of the Mediterranean and their olive trees.  A number of characters from Palestine, Greece, Italy and Spain get involved in unraveling this tale, as the film also sheds light on the story of Alia Yunis’ father and his own connection with the olive trees.

The film was selected among the Best of the Fest at the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Film Festival where it had three full-house screenings as the audience laughed and cried along with it.

At the film’s premiere in Thessaloniki International Film Festival, one audience member announced during one Q&A following a screening of the film, “After seeing this film, I changed my mind about selling my family’s olive trees,”

Alia Yunis is a writer and director who wrote for several acclaimed publications. She worked as a screenwriter and was a script analyst for Warner Bros., Miramax, and Hallmark Entertainment. She produced and co-directed the feature documentary, Manhunt, which aired on Oprah Winfrey’s Oxygen Channel as a Valentine’s Day special. Since then, she has produced several short films, including Dreams in their Eyes, about the week in the life of a volunteer medical mission for sick and injured Lebanese, Palestinian, and Syrian children in the refugee camps in Lebanon. It won top prizes at the 2012 Abu Dhabi Film Festival and the 2012 Marbella International Film Festival, and screened at several other international festivals.
