MetLife Foundation partners with INJAZ UAE to support global financial literacy education in Dubai

Employees of MetLife in the Gulf, a leading provider of life insurance and employee benefits programs, along with INJAZ UAE, a member of Junior Achievement (JA) Worldwide - the world’s largest and fastest growing non-profit business education organization – collaborated in support of financial literacy education amongst youth aged 14-19 in Dubai, UAE.
‘MetLife LifeChanger’ program, which is funded by the MetLife Foundation, aims to engage the company’s volunteering employees to improve work readiness, entrepreneurial and financial literacy skills among youth. In 2016, around 1,000 MetLife staff will mentor over 20,000 students of all ages in 19 countries across Europe, Middle East & Africa.
Mr. Theo Alexandrescu, General Manager – Gulf – MetLife: “The ability to be responsible with your own money is a core skill to achieving financial independence and security. That is why MetLife Gulf is proud to collaborate with INJAZ UAE. Promoting financial responsibility at an early age can have long-term societal and economic benefits for the UAE, and I am happy that employees at MetLife are willing to share their expertise to benefit over 500 young people in Dubai.”
Over 34 MetLife volunteers already participated in mentoring students across various schools in Dubai, UAE.
“Definitely a terrific experience participating in the JA More than Money® program! How to save money? How to deposit? How to value money? How to listen and respect customers? One of the most important learnings was money management which will really help me in the future, because I want to become a banker. Thank you so much INJAZ UAE and MetLife Foundation for your help and guidance,” stated Amla Saleh, Dubai International School.
More volunteers from MetLife in the Gulf will continue to participate in the coming year. Students will be invited to participate in courses which help to build a better understanding of the value of money, the benefits of being financially responsible and the importance of planning for their long-term needs.
Sulaf Saleh Al-Zu’bi, CEO of INJAZ UAE commented: “We are very excited to partner with MetLife Foundation as the Dubai financial literacy champion and offer international financial programs to students at such a young age. The students’ financial management skills are better structured, when financial knowledge is instilled at a young age – helping parents as children’s spending grows with age. We look forward to support more youth in developing skills for a successful financial future with the tools and resources to better understand and manage their finances.”
