Nawras is recording the first tangible results of its extensive network Turbocharging Programme with initial survey and testing results collected from Al Amerat this week. After speaking to the first group of customers in this pilot area, Nawras recorded an 83% score from customers saying that they are very satisfied or satisfied with the network. These results clearly show the impact of the recent network upgrade.

Detailed drive tests undertaken in the same area show significant improvement in both coverage and quality.  In addition, stationary tests in Al Amerat show great improvements in areas where previously speeds were low.  Connections are much better now and greater stability is being recorded.

Wolfgang Wemhoff, Nawras Chief Technology Officer, said, “While we appreciate these are still early days, all our tests are showing that the planned network improvements are now coming through in Al Amerat and having an extremely positive affect on the customer experience, as  promised. We have introduced new network equipment at all base stations in Al Amerat and added a second carrier to enable us to handle more than double the traffic. This Turbocharging Programme is designed to delight our customers with faster speeds, higher quality services and greater coverage.”

He added, “Of course Al Amerat is just the beginning of this huge programme. We are in the process of putting new equipment into every base station on our network and greatly increasing our 3G+ coverage so it will reach 97 per cent of the population. By the end of this year we will have nearly 200 new 3G+ base stations. Our customers in Al Amerat are the first to enjoy the new communications experience.”

With around 1000 Nawras family members, the company is able to add to the customer survey results by also obtaining feedback from its own people who are living in the Turbocharged area.  Both Nasser Al Ghaithi, Contact Centre Supervisor and Ahmed Al Sinai, Section Head, Network Services and Planning, have said that they are now experiencing a significant improvement in 3G+ data services as well as in the quality of voice calls being carried over the 2.75G network.

The first stages of the extensive Network Turbocharging Programme have already been completed at Al Bustan, Muttrah, Wadi Kabir, Wattaya, Ruwi, Darsait, Qurm, Medinat Al Ilam, Ministries District, Al Khuwair and Ghubra. Network base stations in Bousher and Al Azaiba are next to be upgraded to the new equipment.

By the end of the year, work will have covered an extensive swathe of land stretching all the way from Bar Al Jissah to Musannah and Turbocharging will extend into the Batinah region at the beginning of 2013.

Nawras will have more than doubled the number of base stations when the Turbocharging Programme is completed. Such a vast expansion and improvement will positively impact the customer experience by delivering faster broadband internet and enhanced capacity across the country.

Nawras is committed to future proofing its network and through this technological revolution the company will keep its customers at the forefront of innovative communications.
