Oman Oil Company honours graduates of Sultan Qaboos University’s ‘Basees’ programme

40 Omani female facilities service staff between the age of 26 and 50 became the inaugural graduating class of Sultan Qaboos University’s ‘Basees’ programme, a first-of-its-kind initiative devised by the Education Group and championed by Oman Oil Company S.A.O.C (OOC) to offer practical skills training and financial support. Dr. Hussain Ali Al Kharusi, Dean of Admissions & Registration at SQU presided over the ceremony, which was marked by shared sentiments of hope, driving home the true essence of the programme.
Led and managed by students from the College of Education at the University as part of their teaching degree qualifications, ‘Basees’ aims to enhance the quality of living of the workers by empowering them to generate new sustainable income streams. Living conditions, education levels and skill-sets were first assessed before implementing a tailored tuition course that ran four days a week throughout the month of August.
“We applaud the students of the Education Society for developing this inspiring programme that is by the University community and for the community,” expressed Al Mutasim Al Sariri, Head of Corporate Sustainability Department at OOC. “The message of ‘Basees’ is equally powerful to its objectives and in fact builds the capacity of both the workers and the students alike. We hope to hear a string of success stories, one at a time, as the facilities service staff at the University progress with a new sense of confidence and greater conviction to reach their full potential.”
Oman Oil Company, together with its subsidiaries and partners, plays an active role in advancing the community and is committed to capacity development and education programmes as the building blocks of a thriving nation.
