Orange Jordan sponsors Kingdom’s first meeting of the Global Commission on Internet Governance
During a recent press conference at the King Hussein Business Park, Orange Jordan announced that it will be sponsoring Jordan’s first meeting of the Global Commission on Internet Governance (GCIG). The event, to be held on March 18-19 at the King Hussein Business Park, will be organized by Oasis 500, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II.
At the event, key representatives from GCIG will address the importance of freedom of expression on the internet, the necessity of uninhibited access to global knowledge, and the inextricable link between economic success and proper internet governance. GCIG began as a two-year initiative with the purpose of advancing the future of internet in connection with government and company policies. Jordan, a leader in the ICT sector in the Middle East, was chosen by GCIG as its next host, following previous meetings held in Sweden, Korea, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ghana, and India. As an annual host of the World Economic Forum MENA, Jordan is recognized by the commissioners of GCIG as a highly conducive environment for the expansion of its economy complemented by increased internet freedom.
Highlighting Orange Jordan’s role in the event, CEO Jérôme Hénique said, “As the leading internet provider in the country, we at Orange Jordan understand the significance of internet governance in shaping and developing the ICT sector. We are continuously seeking methods of improving our services for our subscribers and for the Jordanian people as a whole, and GCIG’s discussion of a growing competitive global economy provides us with the opportunity to understand and develop appropriate solutions to offer richer connectivity options, a key driver of our Essentials 2020 strategy.”
Meanwhile, the CEO of Oasis 500, Yousef Hamidaddin, elaborated on the benefit that GCIG Jordan will have, adding, “We are honored to have been chosen as GCIG’s next location. By hosting its discussion on internet governance and economic success, we hope to lead the way toward opening a dialogue on this topic in the Middle East. On an international level, we are hopeful that Oasis 500’s organization of the meeting will give Jordan even more exposure as the leading country in regional ICT.”
Orange Jordan remains committed to a more connected community. Essentials 2020 represents a new era in Orange Jordan’s business strategy, and by sponsoring and attending events that teach about new developments in a modern world such as internet governance, it will be able to become even more aware and attentive to needs of its subscribers. Orange Jordan’s sponsorship of GCIG’s event aims at positioning Jordan as the region’s most prominent proponent of global internet accessibility and seeks to promote positive growth in the Kingdom’s economy.
